Mechanism
The unique source of the pinnacle ache in these patients seems to be a psychological conflict which the patient has suppressed due to its unpleasant nature, and which is changed, one would possibly say, by the symptom of headache. This straightforward formulation obviously leaves many questions unanswered. The Sonya Skin Care Kit contains five basic elements for cleansing, moisturizing, and maintaining overall skin health and appearance. Particularly, we want to know how an unpleasant emotion or temper can provide rise to ache referred to a specific a part of the bodyin these cases, the head.
Our present data of the mechanisms concerned in this formation of psychic distress into head ache leads to two theories, every relevant to a unique group of psychogenic headaches. In some cases the psychological conflict produces an end organ discharge, either skeletal or autonomic, with resultant adjustments in the muscles and blood vessels of the pinnacle and neck. These muscular contractions and vascular constrictions or dilatations, either immediately or because of secondary edema, develop into painful. The end organs for ache near these muscular and vascular adjustments are stimulated and create nerve impulses which pass along the afferent pathways
to the central nervous system, eventually arriving at the cortex (see Chapter III) and are translated as painful sensations. The socalled tension complications, mentioned in Chapters V and VII, and in this chapter, are of this type.
In different cases the ache arises immediately as the result of processes confined to the central nervous system itself. There is no such thing as a stimulation of the sensory end organs which mediate ache; quite the opposite, the psychological conflict apparently stimulates the painperceptive facilities in the sensory cortex neurally in a manner we cannot yet describe physiologically or anatomically. We will perceive pretty nicely the psychological points of such cases, however the mechanism of the conversion of psychological conflict into physical ache symptom continues to be fairly obscure.
